Why AEO Matters

Being Named When Somebody Asks AI Who To Call

When somebody asks ChatGPT who to call, it doesn't hand back ten links. It names a couple of businesses. You're either in that answer or you're not in it.

Where your customers are

They Ask ChatGPT The Way They Would Ask A Neighbor

Ten years ago a homeowner with a leaking roof typed it into Google. Plenty of them now ask ChatGPT instead, in the same words they'd use with a neighbor. "Who should I call for a metal roof near me?"

BrightLocal found 45% of consumers now use AI tools to get local business recommendations. That's a real slice of the people looking for your trade, and they never see a list of links.

Why it matters

Two Or Three Names Is The Whole Answer

Google gives you ten results and a map. ChatGPT gives back a paragraph with two or three companies named in it. No page two to scroll to, no map to zoom out on.

If you're not in that paragraph, the person asking never finds out your business exists. BrightLocal found ChatGPT is the AI tool people reach for most often for local recommendations, at 31%. So the paragraph is worth being in.

Why it takes work

There Is No Form To Fill In And No Ad To Buy

AI builds its answer out of what's already published about your business. So the work is making that plain and making it agree everywhere.

Your website, your Google profile and every old listing have to say the same thing about what you do and where you do it, in sentences a reader could quote. That's the pointed effort, and most contractors have never done any of it.

What this service is

A Paid Add-On And Not Part Of The $297

This is a service you buy on top of the website, and it isn't part of the $297 plan. Most owners add it once the website is up and doing its job.

You're paying for the work above, done on purpose instead of by accident, plus a check every month. We ask ChatGPT, Google's AI results and Perplexity the questions your customers would ask, and send you what came back.

Worth knowing

What This Does Not Do

Nobody can promise you a place in an AI answer, and we do not promise one. We ask the same questions by hand every month and show you exactly what came back.

Not every answer is written from the live web. Semrush found ChatGPT turns on its search feature for 34.5% of queries, so this work aims at the answers that do go and look.

An AI answer is built fresh every time somebody asks, so being named is visibility and not a fixed position. We measure it monthly and read it as a trend.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is answer engine optimization?
It's the work of getting your business named inside the answers AI tools give, ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews and Perplexity, instead of in a list of links. That means stating your facts plainly on your own pages, keeping them consistent everywhere a model reads them, then checking each month what the tools say. It buys visibility, not traffic.
How do I get my business mentioned in ChatGPT?
There's no submission form and no way to pay for a place. You make the answer easy to assemble. Plain sentences stating what you do and where, real answers to the questions people ask, and the same name, number and service area everywhere a model looks. Nobody can guarantee a mention.
Does being cited by an AI answer bring traffic to my website?
Mostly no. Pew Research Center tracked 900 US adults and recorded a click on a link inside a Google AI summary in 1% of visits. So this isn't a clicks product. It still matters because when somebody asks an AI tool which company to call and it names three, you want to be one of them.
Does answer engine optimization replace SEO?
No, and anybody telling you it does is selling the newer thing. SEO is the ordinary results under the map, and Google Business Profile management is the map itself. Both send a person to your website. This doesn't. Pew Research Center recorded a click inside an AI summary in 1% of visits. Search is the traffic product. This is the visibility one.
Does schema markup or an llms.txt file get me cited by AI?
Neither is the lever it's sold as. Google's guidance on AI features lists structured data under what is not required, and the FAQ rich result it used to earn was retired on 7 May 2026. Google has also said plainly you don't need an llms.txt file. We still ship schema on every site we build. A model can only use a page that says things outright.
Which AI crawlers does my website have to allow?
Two, and neither is the one usually named. OAI-SearchBot builds the index ChatGPT searches, and ChatGPT-User is the live fetch that reads your page while an answer is written. Block either and you can't be cited. GPTBot only collects training data, so blocking it doesn't affect citation. A nosnippet tag also disqualifies a page from AI answers. We set all of this on the sites we build.
